Ingredients
Many of my customers have ingredient concerns for a variety of reasons. Some are looking for products free of preservatives, others are looking for vegetarian or vegan products, still others are avoiding allergins such as gluten or tree nut oils. This is why, as you look through the product pages, every individual item has the ingredients listed. This gives you, the consumer, to make an educated purchase decision. You can do what is right for you and your family. If you cannot find anything here that meets your needs, I am always available to produce products to suit your specifications.
Please note that my production facility is small and products are all prepared on shared equipment.
What is often more important than what is in my products is what is NOT in my products. My products are FREE of the following:
Detergents: Both Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and its close relative Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) are commonly used in many soaps, shampoos, and washing detergents. Both chemicals are chemically known as surfactants, and there are hundreds of variations used in the marketplace today. Toxicology research by the OSHA, NTP, and IARC have confirmed the Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association (CTFA) and the American Cancer Society disputation that SLES is a carcinogen. SLES and SLS, and subsequently the products containing them, have been found to contain parts-per-thousand to parts-per-million levels of the known carcinogen dioxane. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency considers dioxane to be a probable human carcinogen, and a known irritant. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration encourages manufacturers to remove dioxane, although it is not required by federal law.
Preservatives: One of the most popular preservatives used in the marketplace today are parabens. Some recent studies have shown that parabens mimic estrogen in the human body. Although more studies are needed, it is possible that in the future we will learn that parabens have contributed to the rise of cancers in women, especially breast cancer. Research this controvery on your own and decide if paraben preserved products are right for you.
Dyes: FD&C dyes are made from coal, tar, or petroleum and can be skin irritating to as many as 1 in every 10,000 people. The only use for a dye is to make a product more attractive- they serve no other function. Often, the herbs, clays, or minerals I use to color my products have other benefits besides adding appeal to the product.
Phthalates: These are used in a large variety of products including adhesives and glues, personal care products, detergents and surfactants, plastic objects, paints, printing inks and coatings, pharmaceuticals, food products and textiles. The federal government has restricted three types of phthalates permanently and put interim restrictions on three others, effective February 10, 2009.
